Inspired by The Digital Download (May 5, 2023, Mental health in sales: Is this a problem?).
The pressure to meet or exceed sales targets, constantly trying to build new relationships (meaning lots of emotional empathy toward our prospects), which is often met with rejection (requiring a lot of personal emotional resilience).
Did you know?
🧠 More than 3 in 5 (63%) sellers are struggling with their mental health.
🤯 79% of salespeople describe their stress levels as stressed or highly stressed.
😵💫 65% of sellers are not sleeping well (insomnia, difficulty sleeping or restless sleep).
🥱 66% of sellers are feeling always tired or more tired than usual.
In a role that is filled with hungry and driven people, a role in which we pride ourselves on our accountability and are constantly looking to improve our approach, there is a fine line between being self-aware and being self-conscious.
For me, self-awareness enables me to be creative and adaptable, it enables me to be curious and constantly test and optimise my approach; which is a superpower, if you ask me!
Yet, while taking this look inside and constantly assessing areas to improve it can be all too easy to slip into being self-conscious. Personally, this freezes me, the creative juices don't flow freely and when I do have a good idea I'm too scared to act upon it because I've overthought the potential negative outcomes that have spiralled in my mind.
When this happens we often revert to what we know because it gives us confidence and control. However, with the vast changes in buyer behaviour, this could be detrimental.
When I feel this way I ensure to talk with my support network. Additionally, I revisit the lead measure… what are the steps that I need to take to get to where I want to be?
The social selling benchmarks and reporting that we have created help to give visibility over the impacts of my actions and help me to regain clarity.
What do you do to stay on the right side of self-awareness?
